Huntly Film Club will be screening films on the 3rd Thursday of each month, upstairs at the Ex Servicemen's Club in Gordon St, Huntly. There will also be some extra films throughout the year, including children's films on Sundays.

Huntly Ex Servicemen's Club in Gordon St is the new venue for films in Huntly - their function hall has a very impressively large screen, Blu ray projector and surround-sound...and there is even a private bar!

Regular films will be shown at 7.30pm on the 3rd Thursday each month, with many extra films at weekends throughout the month. Keep an eye on the noticeboard at the Ex Servicemen's Club for news of the latest films or email huntlyfilm.community@yahoo.co.uk to join our mailing list and make sure you don't miss out on anything.

We are aiming to screen a pretty wide range of films from childrens favourites and recent Hollywood releases to independent cinema and foreign language films - and suggestions are always welcome.

Set in Oregon in the 1950s and based on the Stephen King Novella 'The Body', this is a road trip and coming-of-age movie - though unlike most road trips this one involves travel on foot. The film follows four boys as they travel along a railway in search of a dead body, although in many ways the story is more about what they discover along the way than what they find at the end.
A wistful narrative, a reflection on lost innocence infused with adventure and humour - starring the young River Phoenix and Corey Feldman among others.

SON OF RAMBOW stars Bill Milner as Will Proudfoot, a shy, reserved young boy who is different from the other kids because his family is part of the Brethren, a religion that shuns the outside world, not allowing him to have friends at school or to watch television. While in the hallway in school one day because he can't watch an educational film in class, Will gets into a fight with Lee Carter (Will Poulter), a tough kid who gets into trouble all the time. Lee forces Will to help him make a homemade version of the Sylvester Stallone film FIRST BLOOD, but after watching the original, Will is captivated by the movie and writes his own sequel, casting himself as the son of Rambo (he misspells the name of the character). Will and Lee use their imagination and lots of grit to get the project off the ground, bonding as only blood brothers can. But soon the entire school wants to participate in the movie, including ultra-cool French exchange student Didier Revol (Jules Sitruk), jeopardizing the integrity of the production as well as Will and Lee's growing friendship.

Milner and Poulter, both making their feature-film debuts, are engaging as the lead characters. Jennings sets SON OF RAMBOW in the 1980s, before cell phones, digital cameras, and YouTube changed the way people communicate. Amid a soundtrack that includes music from such seminal period bands as the Cure and Depeche Mode, the two young boys learn about family and friendship, jealousy and ego as their carefully controlled worlds threaten to implode.

JOYEUX NOEL (Merry Christmas)

More fund raising...

We have been showing our faces at the Huntly Hairst market this Saturday doing face painting in order to raise more funds. We were very busy even though the cold was quite fierce.

We are also planning another Quiz Night as the first one was such fun. We will let you know in due course when and where it will take place.

We are curently discussing the film program for the next 6 months, the first film should be screened round Christmas time. AT LAST ;-)

Pub Quiz

The pub quiz organised on Friday 12th of September was extremely successful. We welcomed a lot of people in the Tin Hut Sessions home, Gartly village Hall. So much so that we almost ran out of seats. As well as having loads of fun on the night, we managed (with your help of course) to raise around £500. This will help towards the start of the film club.

Thank you again for your support and generosity. We hope we will be able to count on you again for any future fund raising events and for the launch of the Film club in Huntly.

Bring and Buy DVD sale

Thank you to everybody who gave generously their old videos and Dvds. We were very successful in our sale and made more money than we expected, but this is only the first small step to independence! We will try to hold another sale (we have a lot of videos left) after the summer at another location.

Bring and Buy Film Sale

The bring and buy film sale will be held on the 5th of July 2008 at Huntly Farmer's market. Please donate any DVDs or videos that you no longer watch and/or come and buy some new ones! All funds raised will be put towards screening our first season of films.

The licence for each film costs approximately £90 plus we have to pay a deposit of £150 to the film distributor so we are hoping to raise around £700 to cover the first 6 months of films. Hopefully, after that, we can be self-sustaining from ticket sales. Please give generously!

We also hope to hold a quiz night in September at the Tin Hut so start getting your team together early!

Market research

On Saturday 02 of February, we did market research at the monthly Farmers Market in Huntly. We were trying to find out if the people of Huntly and surrounding areas would be interested to go and watch films in their town. The response was extremely positive. As expected, most people said that they would go to the cinema more often if they didn't have to travel so far. And the vast majority said that they would go to film screenings if there was somewhere nearer. The experience was very revealing for us and comforted us in the idea that this project would be of great benefit for the community.

A new project starts...

We are currently setting up a film society in Huntly.
Inhabitants of Huntly and surrounding areas often have to travel miles to either Aberdeen or Elgin to watch a film at the cinema .This is what we are trying to remedy.
At the moment we are trying to find sponsors and funding to help us start the project. We are going to get help initially from Deveron Arts who will graciously lend us equipment to project films. We are very keen in involving the community (inc. local schools and shops) and hope to get their support. Our main aim is to provide an opportunity for local people to discover or rediscover films in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, right here in the heart of Huntly.
